Updated Oct 2026

£1,200.00 total · VAT £200.00. Estimate, not tax advice. Tax year 6 Apr 2026 to 5 Apr 2027.

£1,000.00 × (1 + 20%) = £1,200.00. Provincial sales tax is not calculated. Charge this only if you are registered.

The formula

Total = net × (1 + rate). Net = total ÷ (1 + rate). Tax = total − net. Rates: UK 20, 5, and 0 percent (gov.uk/vat-rates). Canada GST/HST as published by the CRA. Australia GST 10 percent. PST is provincial and is not calculated here.

Questions

Do I charge VAT if I am not registered?

No. Leave the registered box unticked and this card does not add the tax.

Which Canadian rate applies?

The picker lists the GST and HST rates published by the CRA: 5 percent, Ontario 13 percent, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island 15 percent, and Nova Scotia 14 percent from 1 April 2025. Place-of-supply rules decide which one applies. This card does not decide that for you.

What about sales to overseas clients?

Zero-rating and out-of-scope rules depend on the supply. This card does not apply them. UK zero rate is in the picker as 0 percent when that is the rate you charge.

Is VAT, GST, or HST my income?

No. It is tax you collect and pass on. Take-home cards on this site start from profit or taxable income, not from this tax.

How do I remove the tax from a total?

Choose extract. Net is the total divided by (1 plus the rate). Tax is the total minus that net.
