Planning guide · Not overtime law

They want it this weekend. Here’s the extra.

The hours did not get packed into fewer weekdays. They sat on Saturday. Or Sunday. Or after the day they already paid for. Type weekday hours, weekend hours, your hourly floor, and an extra share you pick. Default 0.5 is a half-again example — not time-and-a-half as a law, not employment overtime, not a 1.5× industry rule.

Copy-paste sentence (Saturday / after the bought day):

Next money on this hub:

The hours landed on Saturday. That is a different clock.

A blog will tell you independent contractors “get time-and-a-half on weekends.” That sentence is not a statute on this page, not FLSA, and not what this card computes. They did not squeeze a five-day job into Thursday and Friday. They did not add screens. They parked hours on Saturday, Sunday, or after the day they already bought. Those hours still use the same hourly floor from the hub calculator — the yearly keep, billable weeks, and tax slice you entered there. This page does not copy that tax slice and is not a 50-state tax engine. Dollar signs here are labels so 8 × $90 is easy to read. Invoice in another currency on the hub. If $90 is still a guess, set the floor first on how to set a freelance rate.

Weekday keep = weekday hours × hourly floor. That number does not move. Weekend extra = weekend hours × hourly floor × extra share. You type the share. Default 0.5 is a half-again example so the comparison is visible. It is not a 1.5× industry rule and it is not “time-and-a-half is the law.” Weekend billed = weekend hours × floor × (1 + extra share). Total = weekday keep + weekend billed — the same as (weekday hours × floor) + (weekend hours × floor × (1 + extra share)). Type 0 extra share if Saturday bills at the same floor as Tuesday. Type 1.0 if you want another full floor on top of those hours. The card multiplies what you typed. It will not invent employment overtime, a Saturday statute, or a blog’s “everyone bills 1.5× on Sunday.”

Worked USD: 8 weekday hours at $90 plus 4 weekend hours, extra share 0.5

Preset: weekday 8. Weekend 4. Floor $90. Extra share 0.5. Weekday keep: 8 × $90 = $720. Weekend extra: 4 × $90 × 0.5 = $180. Weekend billed: 4 × $90 × 1.5 = $540. Total $1,260.

That $1,260 is weekday hours at the floor plus weekend hours with the extra share you typed. It is not a compressed week. It is not a commute. It is not extra NEW hours of work. Do not start Saturday before the dollars have a name. Copy the sentence. Confirm. Then open the laptop.

After the day they already bought

Second preset: still 8 weekday hours at $90. Weekend / after-hours is now 3 — they already bought the day, then pinged at 7pm or asked you to stay into Saturday morning. Extra share still 0.5. Weekday keep is still $720. Weekend extra: 3 × $90 × 0.5 = $135. Weekend billed: $405. Total $1,125.

After-hours of a day they already paid for is the same clock as Saturday: the hours sit outside what they bought. Name those hours on this card. Do not hide them inside “we’ll just wrap it tonight.”

You were going to eat Saturday

Third preset: same 8 + 4 at $90, extra share 0.5. Weekend extra is still $180. Weekend billed still $540. Eating Saturday does not make you easy to book. It trains the next “can you just hop on this weekend.” Name the extra share or give it away on purpose — do not pretend Saturday was free.

This card is not the other money cards

They did not steal weekdays. Same hours they already asked for, squeezed into fewer weekdays, is the rush-job card. That math is calendar compression: lost weekdays ÷ the week they used to have, times job keep. Friday-instead-of-next-week lives there. Hours that land on Saturday or after the bought day live here. Two clocks. Two cards. Do not fold a Sunday block into “they needed it Friday.”

They did not ask you to show up. Hours on site + travel hours you type × this floor is the on-site day card. A commute is not Saturday. A garage ticket is not after-hours. Price the drive on the on-site card; price the weekend square here. This page does not halve a commute and does not invent a 50% travel rule.

They did not add screens. Extra NEW hours of work on a live quote is the change-order add-on. Saturday of hours already in the job is not extra scope. If they also ask for more work and they want it on Sunday, price the new hours on change-order and the weekend landing on this card. Two numbers. Do not hide Saturday inside “just a couple more hours.”

A full engagement — production, kickoff, revisions, a buffer you set — is quote a project. One Saturday is not that package. If the brief is actually several days that happen to include a weekend, cut the project there; use this card only for the hours that sit on Sat/Sun or after the bought day.

The extra share is an example you type. You can change it.

0.5 is on the card so you can see half-again next to the floor. Fine. Change it. Clear it to 0 and weekend hours bill at the same floor as weekday hours — extra is $0, weekend billed is weekend hours × floor, total is still weekday keep plus that product. Type 0.25 if the extra should be thinner. Type 1.0 if you want another full floor on those hours. There is no official 1.5× freelance weekend rate on this page. There is no “time-and-a-half is the law” line. Independent-contractor weekend pay is not FLSA overtime for employees. You pick the share. This page does not invent one.

Example: weekday keep $720, weekend hours 4, floor $90, you type extra share 0 → weekend extra $0, weekend billed $360, total $1,080. Same hours, you type 0.5 → extra $180, weekend billed $540, total $1,260. The share is a number you asked for, not a rule we invented.

Send the sentence before Saturday starts

Name the weekday hours. Name the weekend / after-hours hours. Name the floor. Name the extra share you typed. Name weekday keep, weekend extra, weekend billed, and the total. Copy from the card so the dollars match.

Skip guilt, fake scarcity, and “time-and-a-half — industry standard.” Those lines turn a calendar square into a lecture. There is no official weekend percent on this page. If they will not confirm, do not start Saturday. The weekday hours they already bought still stand. If the ask is actually a new job, stop here and cut a project quote. If the $90 floor moved, go back to the hub and rebuild it before you name Saturday.

Planning math, not overtime law

Educational only — not legal, tax, employment-overtime, or collections advice. We do not invent a required 1.5× weekend rate, a statutory Saturday fee, FLSA overtime for contractors, marketplace weekend fees, or a 50-state tax engine. Use the agreement you already have. An after-hours clause a court will enforce is something a lawyer where you work drafts before you block Saturday. Filling this card does not write that clause.

Inputs: weekday hours, weekend / after-hours hours, hourly floor, extra share (default 0.5 as a half-again example). Outputs: weekday keep, weekend extra, weekend billed, total, one pasteable sentence. Dollars on this page; live currency and the tax slice live on the hub.

Rate calculator Same hours, fewer weekdays They want you on site Extra NEW hours on a live quote Set the hourly floor

If your billable-week count moved, set the hourly floor again on the hub before you price Saturday. Hours that sit on Saturday, Sunday, or after the day they already bought are named here — extra share you type, not overtime law. Same hours packed into fewer weekdays live on rush-job. A commute lives on on-site-day. Extra screens live on change-order.

FAQ

How do I charge freelance hours that fall on Saturday or Sunday?

Weekday keep is weekday hours × your hourly floor. Weekend extra is weekend hours × floor × an extra share you type. Weekend billed is weekend hours × floor × (1 + that share). Total is weekday keep plus weekend billed. Default extra share is 0.5 as a half-again example you can change. Planning math, not a contract.

Is freelance weekend work time-and-a-half by law?

Not on this page. There is no FLSA overtime rule here, no statutory 1.5× for Saturday, and no claim that time-and-a-half is the law for independent contractors. 0.5 is a half-again example you type. Change it. Clear it to 0 if weekend hours bill at the same floor. This card will not invent employment overtime.

Is a weekend extra the same as a rush job, an on-site day, or a change order?

No. A rush job is the same hours squeezed into fewer WEEKDAYS — calendar compression of lost weekdays, not Saturday. An on-site day is hours in the room plus travel hours you type. A change order is extra NEW hours of work on a live quote. This card is when hours fall: Saturday, Sunday, or after the day they already bought.

What if I was going to eat Saturday for free?

Eating Saturday still spends the hours and still sits on a day they did not originally buy. 4 weekend hours at a $90 floor with extra share 0.5 still have a $180 extra and $540 weekend billed. Saying the number is not a fight. Giving Saturday away for free teaches them to ping Saturday again.

Is this weekend math overtime law, a 50-state tax engine, or a contract?

No. Educational planning only — not legal, tax, employment-overtime, or collections advice. Dollar signs here so 8 × $90 is readable. Pick live currency and a tax slice on the hub. This page is not a 50-state filing table and does not apply FLSA. Entering numbers here does not create a weekend clause.
