20 × $95 is $1,900. 26 hours used is 6 over, $570. Month $2,470. Unused hours expire. See the retainer page.
The opening retainer is 20 hours at $95, which is $1,900.00 of included work. Hours used are 26, so the overage is 6 hours. At $95 that overage is $570.00. The month is $1,900.00 + $570.00 = $2,470.00. Unused hours expire. The rollover cap starts at 0, so nothing carries into the next month until you type a cap.
If the client uses only 14 of the 20 hours, there is no overage. The month stays $1,900.00 because unused hours expire rather than becoming a refund. If you set a rollover cap above 0, only the unused hours up to that cap are available next month. The cap does not raise this month's invoice. It limits what can be carried. A cap of 0 is the opening rule: use the hours this month or lose them.
Overage uses the same $95 rate as the included block. This page does not add a penalty rate. If your letter bills overage at $120, the calculator still has one rate box, so the $2,470.00 figure is the single-rate month. Do not describe it as a two-rate invoice. A 30-hour month at $95 on a 20-hour block is 10 hours over, $950.00, and a month of $2,850.00.
A sprint is a different shape. Sprint price multiplies people, days, and hours, then a ceremony share, and opens at $13,110.00. Billing increment rounds a single block of minutes. Quote a project is a one-time fixed fee. Use the retainer page when the agreement is a monthly hour block plus the hours past it.
The included 20 × $95 line is $1,900.00 even when overage is zero. Say that in the invoice so the client can see the $570.00 is only the 6 hours past 20. Related labor tools: coaching package and logo design quote.
The month starts at included hours times the rate you enter. Hours above the included amount are billed at the same rate. Unused hours expire. The rollover cap starts at 0, so no unused hours carry forward.
