Back Market takes a cut of the refurbished sale. Here’s the keep.

This is a vetted professional refurbisher checkout — the graded iPhone, the renewed laptop, the tested tablet that passed a Quality Charter — not a peer phone classified and not a handmade mug on Amazon. Official US Terms of Service (fetched 28 Aug 2026) charge sellers a commission. The same sentence withholds the number: the exact amount is the terms agreed upon between BACK MARKET and the Sellers. Public US HTML does not print a percent. You type it. Official UK other-info names the shape of that cut: a monthly flat fee plus a commission equal to a fixed rate of the confirmed transaction, including all taxes (including shipping costs). That UK page still does not print the rate. Keep = sale − Back Market commission you type − payment you type. Empty commission is $0 because we will not invent 10%. That refurbished stack is not eBay’s category final-value % + per-order fee (a different marketplace, not a vs-clone).

Independent — not affiliated with Back Market or JUNG S.A.S. Copy below was read from official public HTML on 28 Aug 2026 (America/Chicago). Live fetch: US General Terms of Service (backmarket.com/en-us/legal/terms-of-service), Other Legal Information UK — January 2025 (other-information-uk-20250115), and Who sells on Back Market? (who-sells-on-back-market, updated 22 Jul 2025). US operator in that TOS: BACK MARKET Inc., a Delaware corporation. UK/EU other-info operator: JUNG S.A.S. Gaps: no public seller-commission percent in US or UK HTML we fetched — we will not invent 10%; no public monthly-flat dollar or euro — we will not invent €50 / $50 / £50; Seller General Terms (the signed annex) are not on a public fee table; US Help “Why’s the price different at checkout?” was a Cloudflare bot wall on this fetch — buyer Quality Assurance Fee tiers are not pasted from a search snippet; payment-partner processing % is not printed; BackCare / BackShip / installment prices are named as paid services, not numbered; this is not a 50-state sales-tax engine. Confirm the line in your seller agreement and back office. Planning model only — not tax, legal, or accounting advice. No affiliate IDs.

Keep card (sale − commission you type − payment you type)

Official-shaped formula: keep = sale − Back Market commission you type − payment you type. Sale = refurbished sticker + optional shipping you type (UK other-info puts postage in the commission base; US TOS does not reprint that sentence). Default is a $400 renewed phone on the official US path: commission empty, payment empty — public HTML prints no seller percent. Change any field. Empty percents and flats = $0. Monthly rent is not in this keep.

Default keep leaves commission and payment empty because US TOS withholds the rate. Type the percent from your signed Seller General Terms. Type payment from the payout. Type monthly only as a reminder — this card will not pretend one $400 phone paid the month.

Keep $400.00 from a $400.00 refurbished sale

Back Market commission empty = $0.00. Payment empty = $0.00. Planning only — not a back-office screenshot.

The official US cut is a commission. The percent is not on the public page.

To Sellers, BACK MARKET offers access to and use of its Platform, a back office, an installment payment service and others services such as the BackCare service (where BACK MARKET assists the Seller in the management of their customer service on behalf of the Seller), the BackShip service (where BACK MARKET puts the Seller in relation with a partner to ship the Product(s). A fee is charged for these Services to the Seller. The conditions for these services are covered by the general terms and conditions applicable to Sellers. Sellers are the only persons liable for the Product(s) sold to the Buyer, whether they subscribed to the Services or not. Sellers are charged a commission for these Services. The exact amount of such commission in accordance with the terms agreed upon between BACK MARKET and the Sellers.
GENERAL TERMS OF SERVICE, backmarket.com/en-us/legal/terms-of-service, October 2023, fetched 28 Aug 2026

That is the US machine: BACK MARKET Inc. (Delaware) sits between a professional Seller and a Buyer. It is not the seller of the phone. The product, unless otherwise specified, is a renewed / refurbished second-hand device. The price is “fixed freely by the Seller.” The commission is real. The public HTML does not number it. Integrator blogs that paste 10% and a €50 month are not this Terms of Service. This card starts empty on purpose.

The same article names three optional paid seller services without a grid: BackCare (customer service on the seller’s behalf), BackShip (a shipping partner introduction), and installment payment. Those dollars are not this keep until your invoice prints them. We will not invent a BackCare per-line rate.

UK other-info publishes the shape: monthly flat + commission on the whole ticket

Sellers must pay JUNG S.A.S a monthly flat fee and a commission on all confirmed transactions carried out on the Platform by the Seller. The amount of the commission is equal to a fixed rate of the amount of the transaction, including all taxes (including shipping costs).
Other Legal Information UK — January 2025, fetched 28 Aug 2026

Two official facts, still no percent:

French and Spanish “other information” pages restated the same monthly-flat + commission-including-shipping structure in those languages. They also withhold the rate. The signed Seller General Terms are the annex US TOS points at. That annex is not a public fee table we could fetch.

$400 renewed phone — worked example from the official US default

Refurbished order: one $400 graded smartphone. Empty shipping. Official US default: commission not printed, so not typed. Payment not printed, so not typed. Monthly not in this keep.

Back Market does not publish this $400 keep. The commission exists in US TOS; the percent is missing from public HTML; the subtraction is ours. Source: US General Terms of Service. If you type 10 in the commission box on a $400 sticker, that is your paste — 10% × $400 = $40, keep $360 with payment empty — not an official default this page will ship. Same $400 with $15 ship typed and still-empty percent: sale $415, keep $415 until you type the rate. Not a payout screenshot.

What changes when you type the contract — still not a published table

Refurbished sale What official HTML says This card until you type
$400 phone, empty ship Commission exists; percent not printed Keep $400.00
$400 + $15 ship you type = $415 UK: postage is in the base. US TOS silent on postage-in. Keep $415.00 (empty %)
$220 tablet Same contract commission, still unnumbered Keep $220.00
$900 laptop + $25 ship Confirmed transaction, taxes and shipping in (UK) Keep $925.00 (empty %)

Empty keep is not “Back Market is free.” Empty keep is: the public page refused to number the cut, so we refused to guess. Paste the back-office percent and the keep drops. Integrator help (ChannelEngine and similar) is a third company. It is not cited as Back Market’s rate.

Professional refurbishers only — not a closet listing

Official “Who sells on Back Market?” (updated 22 Jul 2025): Back Market does not refurbish the tech itself. It is a third-party marketplace for professional refurbishers and verified businesses. Classic sellers include factories, repair workshops, recyclers, wholesalers, and lessors who refurbish fleet devices. Retailers and distributors include manufacturers, major retailers, and mobile operators selling returned stock. Anybody cannot list. New sellers are vetted, sign the Sellers Terms and the Quality Charter, and get a Seller Success Manager. The Innovation Lab runs mystery orders. Performance can get a seller limited or suspended.

US TOS restates the buyer-facing cost of that quality layer, which is not this seller keep:

Buyers who place an order via the Platform are charged a service fee for these Services. The exact amount of such service fee is specified to the Buyer before they confirm the order.
— US General Terms of Service, Article 4

That buyer service / Quality Assurance fee sits on the checkout the customer sees. It is not subtracted from your keep on this card. US Help “Why’s the price different at checkout?” names that buyer fee and a sales-tax sentence. Our 28 Aug 2026 fetch of that Help article was a Cloudflare bot wall — HTTP challenge, no fee table in the body we could cite. We will not paste a buyer-tier grid from a search snippet and call it HTML.

Operational costs that are also not a published commission percent: a 12-month limited warranty granted by the Seller (US TOS Article 10), a 30-day change-of-mind return (Article 9; buyer bears return shipping on that path), seller replies to complaints within 24 business hours, and US delivery only to the 48 contiguous states. Those hit margin. They are not a second marketplace percent we can type for you.

BuyBack / trade-in is a separate paid service for the refurbisher. Official BuyBack Terms: free for the individual (except possible shipping), paid for the Refurbisher, with fees “in accordance with the provisions set out in the Sellers General Terms and Conditions.” No public percent there either. Type it if that is the order.

Payment is a partner collection, not a printed seller %

The payment methods on the Platform are made available by BACK MARKET’s payment partners and are specified on the Platform (for instance, payment in installments, Paypal, credit card). BACK MARKET’s payment service providers collect payments in the name and on behalf of the Sellers and of BACK MARKET and ensure security of the transaction.
— US TOS, Article 8.1

Collection mandate is not a 2.9% + $0.30 cell. Empty payment on this card is $0 because the HTML is silent, not because processing is free. Same $400 with a processor you typed at 2.9% + $0.30 and still-empty commission: payment $11.90, keep = $400.00 − $0.00 − $11.90 = $388.10. That 2.9% is your paste. We will not default it. Back Market Pro’s public help (a different B2B surface) names Stripe Connect for weekly payouts — still no percent on the HTML we used for this consumer-marketplace card.

Not a 50-state tax engine

US TOS: tax and service fees appear in the buyer’s final basket before payment. Help (behind the bot wall we hit) is known to discuss destination sales tax. UK other-info puts “all taxes” inside the seller-commission base. None of that is Illinois vs California. Empty tax is not modeled. If your contract actually ran commission on a tax-inclusive ticket, fold that tax into the sale you type. This page will not grow a 50-state mill.

Different marketplace, different stack — not a vs-clone

Back Market is a curated refurbished-electronics marketplace for professional sellers. You apply, you pass quality checks, you sign a contract commission, you warranty the device for a year. That is not:

Same IMEI on a peer classified is a different fee machine, not a “Back Market vs closet” clone. This page does not grow a phone-classified comparison and does not grow an Amazon Handmade artisan referral.

Sources (live fetch, 28 Aug 2026)

Gaps we will not paper over: public seller-commission percent (US or UK); monthly flat dollar / euro / pound; payment-processing % + flat; BackCare / BackShip / installment price grid; buyer Quality Assurance Fee tiers (Help was a bot wall); 50-state sales tax; ChannelEngine-style 10% / €50 as if they were Back Market HTML; in-app back-office cells that are not on these public pages.

FAQ

What are Back Market seller fees in 2026?

US TOS: a commission, exact amount per the agreement with BACK MARKET. No public percent in the HTML we fetched. UK other-info: monthly flat (unnumbered) plus a fixed-rate commission on the confirmed transaction including taxes and shipping. Payment processing not printed. Type the contract. Last checked 28 Aug 2026.

Does Back Market take a cut of shipping?

UK other-info: yes — commission is on the transaction including shipping costs. US TOS does not reprint that postage sentence. Type shipping into the sale if your agreement matches the UK line. Empty = $0 here.

What is Back Market’s payment processing fee?

Not printed as a seller percent on US TOS. Partners collect on behalf of sellers. Type the payout line. Empty = $0. We will not invent 2.9% + $0.30.

On a $400 refurbished phone, what do you keep?

Planning, official US default (percent missing from public HTML), payment empty: $400 − $0 − $0 = $400.00. Not a payout screenshot. Paste the agreed commission when you have it. Monthly flat is not in that keep.

Is the monthly fee in the keep?

No. Keep on this card is sale − commission you type − payment you type. UK other-info names a monthly flat and does not print the dollar. Type it in the reminder field; it will not come out of one $400 phone.

Is this Swappa or Amazon Handmade?

No. Back Market is a professional refurbished-electronics marketplace with a Quality Charter and a contract commission. It is not a peer phone classified and not an artisan referral program. This page stays on the refurbished take-home.

Is this a 50-state tax engine?

No. TOS names tax in the buyer basket. UK other-info includes taxes in the commission base. Neither publishes state rates. Empty tax is not modeled.
