Same $200 Ask. Two take-homes.

One sticker. Two authentication rails. StockX Verified Level 1 still takes 9% of the Ask plus 3% processing at the match plus an estimated US $5 prepaid label deducted from payout (StockX fees explained). GOAT, at rating 90+ with United States prepaid shipping, still takes 9.5% of the listing plus a printed $5 seller fee, then a 2.9% cash-out when you withdraw — not when the pair authenticates (GOAT fees explained). On this $200 US default they land a dime apart: $171.00 vs $170.90. That is not “both apps take ~12%,” not a quarterly-level walkthrough, not a cancellation-rating FAQ, and not Grailed’s $120 Label stack.

Independent — not StockX, not GOAT. Rates were re-opened from public Help / Fee Policy on 28 Aug 2026 (America/Chicago). StockX live fetch (HTTP 200): What are StockX's fees for Sellers? still prints Verified 3% processing plus Seller-Level transaction on the final sale price (Level 1 = 9%); How much does shipping cost for Sellers? still prints Verified deducted from payout and an estimated United States single-item base of $5.00. GOAT live fetch (HTTP 200): Fee Policy (last updated 1 Aug 2026) still prints 9.5% (Canada 12.4%) + seller fee at rating 90+, United States prepaid $5 / drop-off $0, and 2.9% cash-out at ACH or PayPal. Gaps: StockX Help does not print the $200 subtraction — $171.00 is our planning keep; 3% is published as a rate, applied here to the Ask; the US $5 label is estimated and Help says costs vary by item price, size, type, carrier, and location — paste the label if it isn’t $5; GOAT Fee Policy does not print the dollar base for the 2.9% cash-out — default here is remaining after the 9.5% and the $5, labeled as a planning assumption; Selling with GOAT excepts Canadian sellers from its 2.9% cash-out sentence and mentions 3.1% in unnamed locations — Fee Policy’s cash-out paragraph is still a flat 2.9%; cash-out floors disagree ($25 vs $10.00 USD) — we will not pick a winner. This is not a 50-state tax engine. StockX Listings $0-at-launch, Flex storage, GOAT Clean 30%/25%, and US drop-off $0 are off this default $200 row. Match a settled payout before you restock. Worksheet only — not tax, legal, or accounting advice. No affiliate links.

Same $200 card (Verified L1 vs 90+ prepaid)

Default: $200 Ask / listing, empty tax = $0. StockX default is Verified Level 1 with the published US estimated label $5. GOAT default is rating 90+, United States prepaid $5, cash-out 2.9% of remaining (base not printed). Drop-off, Listings, Flex, Clean, and Level 5 are other products — presets exist so you can see they are not this unit.

StockX keep = Ask − max(level % of Ask, US $5 min on the transaction line) − 3% of Ask − estimated label (Listings = $0 standard). GOAT keep = listing − rating % of listing − location seller fee − cash-out (default on remaining). Empty tax. Planning only.

Closet compares train you to hunt “who takes 10%.” These two boards will not sit still for that. Both print a sale-time percent and a second rail, then a $5 that is not the same $5. At a $200 US Ask on Verified Level 1 versus a $200 GOAT listing at rating 90+ prepaid, leftover is $171.00 versus $170.90. A dime is not proof they are the same 12-point machine. That is not StockX’s marketplace-split decoder and not GOAT’s rating-and-location walkthrough. Those pages each hold one stack. This card holds one sticker against both.

1. StockX’s $200 still pays three lines. The 9% is not the whole cut.

StockX Help, “What are StockX's fees for Sellers?,” re-opened 28 Aug 2026 (HTTP 200):

Seller fees on StockX vary by marketplace. … Verified Marketplace sellers pay a 3% payment processing fee plus a transaction fee that decreases as their Seller Level increases. … The transaction fee is calculated on the final sale price.

Level 1 is the published cell with no quarterly requirement: 9%. This card will not assign you a Level 5 you did not earn. Shipping Help, same day: on Verified the label is deducted from payout; estimated United States single-item base is $5.00, and fees vary by item price, size, type, carrier, and location. On a $200 Ask that matched:

Help never shows this $200 row. The percents and the $5 lines are official; the subtraction is ours. Climbing to Level 5 on the same Ask is 7% = $14.00 + $6.00 + $5.00 → keep $175.00. That is a different published cell, not this default. Listings at launch is a third product: Help says no standard selling, processing, or shipping fees, select/waitlist. Do not quote $171.00 as a Listings keep, and do not quote $200 as a Verified keep.

2. GOAT’s $200 still pays a later 2.9%. The 9.5% is not the whole cut.

GOAT Fee Policy, last updated 1 Aug 2026, re-opened 28 Aug 2026 (HTTP 200):

A commission fee is charged only when an item is purchased. The amount of the commission fee is 9.5% (or 12.4% for Canadian sellers) + seller fee. These fees will be deducted from the listing price.

United States prepaid shipping in that same article’s location table: $5. Cash-out: 2.9% when earnings are deposited through ACH or PayPal. That 2.9% is not StockX’s match-time 3%. Leave the balance on GOAT and this card’s cash-out line is $0 until you withdraw. On a $200 listing at rating 90+ prepaid, with cash-out on remaining (assumption):

Do not add 9.5% and 2.9% into a homemade US 12.4%. Fee Policy already reserved 12.4% for Canadian sellers. A “both boards are about 12%” headline is the blend this card exists to kill.

3. The $0.10 gap is two clocks and two $5s, not “half a point of commission.”

$171.00 versus $170.90 is $0.10 on this sticker. Split it:

Slogan math that stops at “they’re basically the same 12%” is how a restock calendar gets the wrong leftover the day you cash out, the day the label is not $5, or the day you are not Level 1 / not rating 90. The clocks are published and they are not the same clock.

Skip GOAT cash-out (money still on-platform, or a promo Fee Policy says may waive it) and leftover becomes $176.00 vs $171.00 — GOAT ahead $5.00 until you withdraw. That is a timing story, not a secret 9.5% discount. Quote $170.90 only if you actually cash out under the remaining-earnings assumption.

4. Why prepaid-vs-Verified is the honest $200 comparable

Both default stacks send the pair to an authentication center on a prepaid label the seller funds as a line. StockX deducts an estimated US $5 from Verified payout. GOAT prints United States prepaid shipping as a $5 seller fee. Empty tax on both. That is the matching unit — not a modeling convenience.

Tax stays empty. Empty = $0 extra. Help prices StockX transaction on the final sale price; Fee Policy prices GOAT commission on the listing. We will not invent Illinois vs California. This is not a 50-state engine.

  3. GOAT 90+ prepaid: commission 9.5, a $5 cost line for the seller fee, then 2.9 on the remaining if you model cash-out — that last base is an assumption Fee Policy does not print.

FAQ

On the same $200 Ask, who keeps more — StockX Verified L1 or GOAT 90+ prepaid?

StockX keep is $171.00 after $18.00 + $6.00 + $5.00 estimated US label. GOAT keep is $170.90 after $19.00 + $5.00 + $5.10 cash-out (2.9% of $176.00 remaining, base assumed). StockX leftover is $0.10 higher. Last checked 28 Aug 2026. Confirm in each account. Help does not print the StockX subtraction. Empty tax.

Is this just 9% versus 9.5%?

No. $1.00 of the dime gap is commission. The second rail goes the other way: StockX 3% of the Ask ($6.00) versus GOAT 2.9% of remaining ($5.10). Both $5 lines match on this default and are not the same $5. “Half a point cheaper” hides the clocks.

Why apply GOAT’s 2.9% to $176 instead of $200?

Fee Policy prints the rate and never prints the dollar base. We apply it to remaining earnings after commission + seller fee and call that an assumption. Leave the money on GOAT and this line is $0 until you withdraw. A payout screenshot beats this worksheet.

Does StockX Help print $171.00?

No. Help prints 9% (Level 1), 3% processing, and an estimated US $5 label. $200 − $18 − $6 − $5 is our planning keep.

How is this different from the fees-explained pages?

Those pages each decode one stack. This card holds one $200 US Ask against both published default stacks: Verified Level 1 versus 90+ prepaid. It is not a Listings FAQ, not a rating-ladder walkthrough, not GOAT Clean, and not a 50-state tax engine.

Is this a 50-state tax engine?

No. Empty tax = $0 extra. Help prices the Ask / listing. We will not invent Illinois vs California.
