Same $40 listing. Meetup vs processing.

One sticker. Two rails. US Depop still takes 3.3% + $0.45 through Depop Payments even when Help prints no selling fee (Depop fees explained). OfferUp, in 2026, is a parking-lot handshake: Help still prints no fees or commission on in-person transactions, and new posts have been local-only since 23 Sep 2025 (OfferUp fees explained). That is Stripe vs a printed $0 meetup — not Depop vs Facebook Marketplace (processing vs a Meta local $0 that Help never prints as a cell) and not Depop vs Mercari (processing vs a live 10%). Empty shipping is the unit because OfferUp’s current product has no postage in the sale.

Independent — not affiliated with Depop or OfferUp. Figures were re-opened from official public Help on 28 Aug 2026 (America/Chicago). Depop: Seller fees and charges (updated 21 Jul 2026), Boosted Listings, Marketplace fee (buyer line). OfferUp live fetch (HTTP 200): What is OfferUp? still says no fees / no commission on in-person transactions; Nationwide shipping ending (updated 21 Jul 2026) still says new posts from 23 Sep 2025 are local pickup only, no plans to restore shipping; Getting paid (updated 25 Nov 2025) still says pay on the spot, cash preferred. Gaps: 1-day / 3-day Promote dollars and extra-listing dollars are in-app, not a public table — empty paste = $0. Do not invent a 2026 OfferUp shipping percent (the product is retired). Off-platform Venmo / Zelle / PayPal cuts are yours to paste. Confirm live copy in your apps. Planning model only — not tax, legal, or accounting advice. No affiliate IDs. No 50-state tax engine.

Same $40 card (organic Depop vs OfferUp meetup)

Default: $40 item, shipping empty = $0 (OfferUp’s 2026 product has no postage). Depop tax empty = $0 — paste a receipt line; not a state-by-state engine. Boost is off until you flip it. OfferUp Promote / extra listing / P2P cuts are paste-only. Depop’s buyer Marketplace fee is not subtracted. Leftover OfferUp 12.9% is not on this card.

Depop keep from this sticker = item (+ pasted ship) minus processing 3.3% on (item + ship + tax) minus $0.45 minus optional Boost 12%. OfferUp meetup keep = item minus any Promote / extra-listing / off-platform $ you paste. Help’s in-person sentence is treated as $0 commission until it changes. Buyer Marketplace fee is not subtracted. Planning only.

Depop keep (item+ship, before COGS)
OfferUp meetup keep (before COGS)
Delta (OfferUp leftover − Depop leftover)
Item leftover after pasted postage
Depop processing / Boost
OfferUp paste (promote + extra + P2P)

The unique unit: Stripe on a closet app vs a printed $0 handshake

“Both apps are free to sell on” is a slogan, not a keep line. Depop’s US table still shows no selling fee, then Stripe takes 3.3% + $0.45 on item + shipping + tax — including dollars you never keep. OfferUp is not the other percent in that table. It is a handshake with no OfferUp payout rail, and Help prints the no-commission sentence. That printed sentence is why this is not Depop vs Facebook Marketplace, where Meta’s 10% lives on shipping checkout and local $0 is inferred. The organic $40 gap here is $1.77 of Depop processing. A 0-versus-10 fight belongs on Depop vs Mercari, where Mercari’s 10% is still a live shipped product.

LineDepop US (organic)OfferUp local meetup (2026 product)
Seller take on this card 0% selling fee; 3.3% + $0.45 processing Printed: no fees / no commission on in-person transactions. Modeled $0 sale cut.
Fee base Processing: item + shipping + any applicable tax In-person: none published as a sale percent. Retired shipped 12.9% of item / $1.99 min is a receipt decoder, not a 2026 listing.
Buyer line (not seller keep) Marketplace fee up to 5% of item + up to $1 (excludes tax and shipping; shown at checkout) OfferUp does not process in-person payments in-app. Do not invent a buyer-protection % and subtract it from the seller.
Optional extra Boost 12% on item (ex-tax); shipping joins that 12% only if self-arranged Promote / extra listing / Premium: app-store charges, not a 12% twin of Boost. Paste a receipt. Do not mill Boost onto the handshake.
Postage in the sale If you charge it, it sits in processing. How to ship - US printed no public US dollar grid (28 Aug 2026). 2026 new posts: local pickup only (from 23 Sep 2025). Empty ship is the product, not a convenience.
When you get paid Depop Balance 2 business days after delivered or 10 after sale, then up to 5 days to bank. No published US withdrawal fee. On the spot at the meetup. Cash preferred. App rails carry risk (official Getting paid).

Depop: Seller fees and charges (updated 21 Jul 2026, fetched 28 Aug 2026), Boosted Listings, Marketplace fee. OfferUp (re-opened 28 Aug 2026, HTTP 200): What is OfferUp?, Nationwide shipping ending (updated 21 Jul 2026), Getting paid (updated 25 Nov 2025). Line-by-line stacks: Depop seller fees explained, OfferUp seller fees explained. Closet compares that are not this page: Depop vs Facebook Marketplace, Depop vs Mercari. Hub: /seller-fees/.

1. Depop’s $40 still pays processing. “0% selling fee” is not $0 cost.

Depop Help, “Seller fees and charges,” updated 21 Jul 2026, opened 28 Aug 2026:

“No Depop Selling fees will be charged to sellers based in the UK, US, or AUS.”

The US processing row on that same table is 3.3% + $0.45 through Depop Payments (Stripe), charged on item sale price plus shipping costs and any applicable taxes. Zero selling fee is not a zero-cost sale. Empty ship, empty tax, $40 sticker:

Drop the sticker to $12 with shipping still empty: 3.3% of $12 rounds to $0.40, plus $0.45 is $0.85 (~7.1 points), leftover $11.15. The handshake still holds $12 if you took cash and pasted nothing. The $0.45 flat is the plot at $12, not a rounded “three percent vs free” headline.

2. OfferUp meetup: Help still prints no in-person commission. 2026 posts cannot ship.

OfferUp Help, “What is OfferUp?”, re-opened 28 Aug 2026 (HTTP 200):

“OfferUp doesn’t charge fees or take a commission from your in-person transactions.”

That sentence is the reason this card is not a clone of Facebook Marketplace local. Meta Help describes meetups and separately documents a 10% selling fee for shipping checkout; it does not print a local $0 selling-fee cell. OfferUp prints the no-commission line. We still disclose what is not in that sentence: optional Promote, extra listings over the free monthly cap, and whatever Venmo / Zelle / PayPal actually charged you. Those are paste-only. Empty = $0. This page will not invent 2.9%, $1.99, or any other unofficial in-person percent.

“Nationwide shipping ending,” updated 21 Jul 2026, re-opened 28 Aug 2026 (HTTP 200):

“September 23, 2025: You will no longer be able to select the shipping option when posting new items. From this date forward, all newly posted items must be for local pickup only.”

The same article: no plans to bring nationwide shipping back. Getting paid (updated 25 Nov 2025) says you are paid on the spot; cash is the safest method; app-based PayPal / Zelle / Venmo “carry some risk.” There is no OfferUp payout rail on a 2026 handshake, so there is no OfferUp processing stack to mill next to Depop’s 3.3% + $0.45.

Leftover Shipping Policy copy still prints 12.9% of item, $1.99 minimum for the retired shipped product. That formula is a receipt decoder on OfferUp fees explained. It is not this card’s default, and it is not a toggle you can still choose on a new 2026 listing. Do not paste 12.9% onto a driveway sale “to make Depop look cheaper.”

3. Boost 12% is a Depop keep line. It does not apply to OfferUp meetup.

Boosted Listings (US/UK row) and the seller-fees table (footnoted “new listings from 23 March 2026”) both print 12% for US sellers:

You’ll only pay a boosting fee if a buyer interacts with your boosted listing (views, clicks, or likes it) and then purchases the item within 28 days.

The 12% sits on item price excluding tax. Shipping joins that 12% only when you skip a Depop Shipping label. Processing still runs underneath. OfferUp’s handshake has no published twin of that 12%. Promote is an optional app-store charge with no public 1-day dollar table — paste the receipt, or leave it empty. Stacking 12% onto the $40 cash keep “for fairness” is inventing an OfferUp rate this page will not print.

$40 sticker, empty ship, empty tax, Boost converts (Depop label — postage stays out of the 12%):

That is Boost on this pair. The same $4.80 can reverse a live 10% race on Depop vs Mercari. OfferUp’s 2026 product is not that race. Pretending Boost “wins OfferUp” is mixing cards.

4. Why empty shipping is the product — and why tax stays optional

OfferUp’s 2026 listing cannot select shipping. Empty shipping ($0 in both bases) is not a modeling convenience the way a Facebook local compare has to argue past a still-live shipped-checkout product. Here the handshake is the product. Depop processing still follows shipping if you charge it. Putting a $7-style label on Depop and $0 on OfferUp is a shipped closet sale versus a driveway sale — two SKUs, not one.

Paste a Depop postage dollar only when that sale actually charged it: it joins the 3.3% base. The OfferUp leftover still has no platform postage — gas and the parking-lot hour are COGS, not a commission. We will not mint unofficial USPS-style Depop tiers. How to ship - US had no public US weight-tier dollar grid when opened 28 Aug 2026.

Keep the buyer Marketplace fee off the seller column. What is the Marketplace fee? is a US/UK buyer checkout line: up to 5% of item plus up to $1, tax and shipping excluded, exact amount shown at checkout. Help will not collapse that to one published percent, so this card will not mint 4.2% or any midpoint. Seller keep on $40 is not “3.3% + $0.45 + 5% + $1.” Adding the buyer line is how blogs inflate Depop versus cash.

State Sales Tax in the US (Depop) says the company calculates, collects, and remits as a marketplace facilitator, and that the tax element is inside the Payment Processing fee. Leave tax blank ($0) unless a receipt line exists. No 50-state engine. OfferUp cash typically has no platform tax row — your own obligation is yours; we will not invent a rate.

Worked: same $40 organic meetup, then Boost, then the $0.45 bite

$40 item, $0 ship, $0 tax, organic Depop vs OfferUp meetup, cash / no pasted Promote or P2P cut

$40 empty-ship, Boost converts (Depop label — postage not in the 12%)

Not this card: leftover OfferUp shipped 12.9% / $1.99 min

  1. Open the profit calculator on /seller-fees/ (home: realratecalc.com).
  2. US Depop organic: commission 0, processing 3.3, flat 0.45. Keep shipping blank so the row stays a 2026 handshake comparable. Extra % = 0 unless Boost actually converted — then 12. Do not park the buyer Marketplace fee in a seller box. Tax only from a receipt.
  3. OfferUp in-person: commission 0, processing 0, flat 0. Help still prints no in-person commission. If a Promote or extra post actually billed you, drop that dollar in other costs — do not invent a percent.
  4. Old shipped OfferUp receipts only: 12.9% of item, $1.99 floor, documented on OfferUp fees explained. Not a 2026 listing preset on this compare.
  5. COGS, gas, and pack go in cost fields. Keep on this page is platform leftover, not profit after the parking-lot hour.
  6. Reconcile to a Depop Balance payout or the cash you actually held. Either company can change the live copy.

FAQ

On the same $40 listing, who keeps more — US Depop or OfferUp meetup?

OfferUp meetup keeps the $40 if you take cash on the spot and paste $0 optional costs. Organic Depop keep is $38.23 after 3.3% + $0.45 on $40 / $0 ship / $0 tax. Boost 12%: Depop $33.43 vs meetup $40.00. Last checked 28 Aug 2026. Confirm in each account. OfferUp Help still prints no in-person commission; new posts cannot ship.

Does OfferUp still take a seller commission on a 2026 in-person sale?

Official “What is OfferUp?” still says no fees / no commission on in-person transactions (HTTP 200, 28 Aug 2026). Getting paid: money changes hands at the meetup. New posts cannot ship after 23 Sep 2025. Optional Promote / extra-listing charges are app-store lines, not a percent of the sale. We will not invent one.

Why is $0 shipping the honest comparable?

OfferUp’s 2026 product is local pickup only. There is no postage dollar in that sale. Depop processing still follows shipping if you charge it. Empty shipping matches the unit. Pasting a Depop label against a parking-lot handshake is two products. Leftover 12.9% is not this card.

Does Boost 12% apply to OfferUp meetup?

No. It only changes Depop keep ($38.23 → $33.43 on this $40 sticker). Meetup cash is still $40 with the printed no-commission sentence and empty Promote paste. Boost can flip a 10% race (see Depop vs Mercari). OfferUp local is not a 10% race. Do not mill 12% onto the handshake.

How is this different from Depop vs Facebook Marketplace?

Both are processing vs a meetup. Facebook Marketplace local models $0 because Meta Help never prints a local $0 selling-fee cell (the documented 10% is shipping checkout). OfferUp prints the no-commission sentence and officially retired nationwide shipping. That printed sentence — plus a dead shipping product — is this card’s unique unit.
