Discogs Help (updated 11 Jul 2026) is blunt: listing is free, then a 9% selling fee on both the item and the shipping, with a USD floor of $0.10 and a USD ceiling of $150. Media Mail, tracked postage, and “free shipping” baked into the sticker all sit in that 9%. There is no Discogs switch that drops postage from the commission. PayPal’s processing cut is a second company — and Discogs HTML does not print that percent. Type it. Empty payment = $0 on this card. That vinyl stack is not Etsy’s $0.20 listing + 6.5% + country processing and not eBay’s category final-value table.
Official formula: keep = sale − Discogs commission you type − payment you type, where sale = item + shipping. Commission is clamped to the published currency min/max. Default is a $35 LP + $5 postage at the official 9%, USD, with payment empty ($0) because Discogs HTML does not print PayPal’s rate. Change any field.

That sentence is the whole Discogs selling machine. There is no insertion fee. There is no category ladder. There is no “Label vs own-ship” fork that pulls Media Mail out of the percent. If the buyer paid $5 to ship a $35 copy of Blue Train, Discogs takes 9% of $40, not 9% of $35.
“Free shipping” does not dodge it. A $40 sticker with postage baked in still pays 9% of $40. Undercharging postage is a double hit: you eat the label, and Discogs still skims 9% of whatever you did charge.
The same 9% / item+ship rule is restated on the PayPal Payments Solution FAQ (updated 11 Mar 2025) and on Understanding The Discogs Selling Fee (updated 28 Oct 2024). After the PayPal payments solution, the fee is deducted when the buyer pays — not as a monthly Discogs invoice.

$150 ÷ 0.09 = $1,666.67 is where the USD cap overtakes the percent. A sealed original that clears two grand is not a 9% story all the way up — Discogs stops at $150 on that order. The $0.10 floor overtakes 9% below about $1.11 ($0.10 ÷ 0.09). Help does not say what happens if the minimum exceeds the sale itself; this card will not invent a negative-keep rule.

The line titled Fee on that same PayPal receipt is PayPal’s own processing — taken from the gross payment and directed to PayPal. Discogs Help says so, then points you to the PayPal Merchant Fees page. That is why this card’s payment fields start empty. We fetched Discogs HTML, not PayPal’s merchant table, and we will not paste a blog’s 2.9% + $0.30 onto a vinyl order and call it official.
Understanding The Discogs Selling Fee shows a Partner Fee of EUR 10,93 that “includes the Discogs’s Selling Fee (9% applied to the item price and shipment)” plus applicable taxes. It does not name the item, the postage, or the tax rate that produced 10,93. This page will not back-solve a sale from that figure.
Circumventing checkout — private messages, off-platform payment, fake order updates — is fee avoidance. Help says it suspends accounts. Do not “save the 9%” by invoicing off Discogs.
