Etsy does not take one blended “commission.” Most shops pay a small listing fee up front, then a transaction percentage plus a payment-processing cut when an order lands — and, on some orders, an Offsite Ads fee if Etsy brought the buyer from outside the site.
Keep ≈ (item + shipping + gift wrap) − listing − 6.5% transaction − processing % − processing flat − optional Offsite Ads − your COGS/pack
Unlike a category-referral marketplace, Etsy’s headline take is the same 6.5% transaction rate across listings — then processing is layered on top and does change with where your bank account sits. Offsite Ads is not a default on every sale; it only hits orders Etsy attributes to an offsite click.
Etsy charges a flat $0.20 USD per listing when you publish (or when a listing auto-renews). The listing lasts four months. You pay even if nobody buys. Source: Etsy Fee Basics (last checked 27 Aug 2026).
Listing fee is per listing event, not a percent of the order. In the calculator, do not treat $0.20 as “3% of a $6 sale.” Either amortize it across expected units, or enter it as a small other-cost / flat so a one-off sale is not pretending the listing was free.
When a customer buys, Etsy takes 6.5% of the total order amount in your listing currency. That base includes the item, shipping you charged, and gift wrap you charged. It is separate from payment processing. Source: the same Etsy Fee Basics article (last checked 27 Aug 2026).
Practical trap: “free shipping” baked into a higher item price still pays 6.5% on the whole checkout total. Charging shipping separately does not dodge the transaction fee — shipping is in the base. Pattern (Etsy’s site builder) has its own transaction fees; those are not this 6.5%.
Etsy Payments takes a percentage plus a per-order flat on the total sale price, including shipping and any sales tax you charge. It is deducted before deposit, on top of the 6.5%. Rates follow the location of your bank account, not the buyer’s country (except a few markets that split domestic vs international processing). Examples from that official table (not the full list):
| Bank location | Processing (of total sale + flat / order) |
|---|---|
| United States | 3% + $0.25 USD |
| United Kingdom | 4% + £0.20 GBP |
| Euro-area countries in the table (e.g. Germany, France, Ireland) | 4% + €0.30 EUR |
| Canada (domestic or US orders) | 3% + $0.25 CAD |
| Canada (other international) | 4% + $0.25 CAD |
| Australia (domestic) | 3% + $0.25 AUD |
| Australia (international) | 4% + $0.25 AUD |
If your country is not in that short list, open the official table — India, Mexico, Singapore, Japan and others use different % and flats. VAT can be added on processing in required locations. Some countries also have a deposit minimum / deposit fee below a threshold; we are not quoting those here because they are not per-order selling fees. Confirm in dashboard; Etsy can change this.
Offsite Ads is Etsy paying to show your listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Bing and partner networks. You are billed when a click is attributed to a purchase within 30 days — not for impressions. Source: How Etsy’s Offsite Ads Work (last checked 27 Aug 2026).
Do not put 15% on every order in the calculator unless you are stress-testing an Offsite-attributed sale. Organic and on-site orders should run at 0% Offsite Ads.
Etsy also documents a one-time, non-refundable shop set-up fee that varies by location and is shown during shop creation. We did not find a single global dollar amount on the public help pages we checked on 27 Aug 2026, so this guide will not fake one — look at the total due when you open the shop. Shipping labels bought on Etsy, Etsy Ads (on-site), and Pattern each have their own prices. Enter those as ads / other cost in the calculator only if you actually use them.
Checkout: $32 item + $6 shipping = $38. No gift wrap. Ignore sales tax for this sketch. US bank account.
A UK shop on the same $38-equivalent checkout would swap processing to 4% + £0.20 (in GBP), not 3% + $0.25. That is why the calculator leaves processing editable.
Etsy’s help text states 6.5% of the total order in your designated listing currency. Payment processing is what changes by bank-account country. Always confirm both lines on a real order in Payment account.
No. Only on orders attributed to an Offsite Ad click (30-day window). Shops under the $10k USD / 365-day threshold can opt out. At or above $10k, enrollment is required and the rate is 12%, capped at $100 USD per order.
Model the amount the buyer actually paid for item + shipping + gift wrap (and tax in the processing field if your statements show tax in that base). Coupons you fund still come out of your pocket on top.
